CURA ADMINISTRATORS PROMOTION OF ACCESS TO INFORMATION MANUAL (PAIA)
The purpose of this manual is to stipulate the policy of Cura Administrators, a private company, with regard to the promotion of access to information of members of the public as well as employees. The company’s policy complies with the requirements of the Promotion of Access to Information Act (PAIA), No 2 of 2000. The manual has been handed in at the Human Rights Commission.
The Promotion of Access to Information Act 2 of 2000 (commonly known as PAIA) is South Africa’s access to information law and it enables people to gain access to information held by both public and private bodies. All organisations in South Africa must comply with it.
The Promotion of Access to Information Act (PAIA) requires all public and private bodies in South Africa to have a manual. Essentially, the manual explains to people how they can get access to the records held by the body.
PAIA GIVES EFFECT TO SECTION 32 OF THE CONSTITUTION WHICH PROVIDES FOR THE RIGHT OF ACCESS TO:
- any information held by the state;
- any information that is held by another person and that is required for the exercise or protection of any right.
PAIA AIMS TO BRING A BALANCE BETWEEN THE INTERESTS AND RIGHTS OF:
- the requester of a record; and
- the public or private body (business) that holds the record.
